Nathaniel L. Hines Scholarship

Honoring Mr. Nathaniel L. Hines – Class of 1952, who was the longest serving member of the Raleigh/Wake Alumni Chapter.
PURPOSE: This Scholarship represent the efforts of the Raleigh-Wake Alumni Chapter to assist the University in attracting high quality students from Wake, Johnston and Franklin Counties, NC . Chapter members are convinced that high academic achievers are essential to the overall outcomes of all students who matriculate through the University System. This Scholarship Award is a major focus of the Raleigh-Wake Alumni Chapter’s Annual Giving Program.
SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE: The Nathaniel L. Hines Scholarship provides $625 per semester for the selected student’s Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior years for a total scholarship award of $5,000, provided the student maintains an overall GPA of 3.0. The Scholarship may be applied to any educational expenses within the student’s cost of attendance (i.e. tuition, fees, insurance, computer purchases, internet service, room & board, meal plans, books, etc.) “NOTICE: If you are the recipient of a FULL Scholarship (i.e., Cheatham – White Scholarship, Dowdy Scholarship, etc.) you may not be eligible to receive the Nathaniel L. Hines Scholarship. This Scholarship does not allow the student to exceed the cost of attendance.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: AN APPLICANT MUST:
- Be a United States citizen, reside in Wake, Johnston, or Franklin County, North Carolina and has graduated or will graduate from an accredited High School in one of the listed counties. The applicant must have attended one of these schools for his or her Sophomore, Junior and Senior years.
- Have been admitted to and enrolled at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. The University acceptance letter must be submitted with the application.
- Have a minimum 3.3 unweighted GPA or better on a 4.0 scale, and a minimum 1100 on the SAT or a minimum 22 on the ACT.
- Submit their High School Transcript and copies of SAT or ACT scores. These documents must be signed and dated by the submitting High School Administrator.
- Include two typed and signed letters of recommendation/evaluation on Official Letterhead.
- One letter of recommendation from their High School (faculty or administrator).
- One letter of recommendation from a Civic or Community organization (i.e.; Boy/Girl Scouts; Boys & Girls Club; etc.), or place of employment, or faith based institution.
- Provide a PERSONAL STATEMENT not to exceed two double spaced typed pages with your name at the top of the page, addressing in detail the following three key points.
- Describe your career objectives and aspirations and how they relate to your chosen major.Describe a situation or event that has shaped or influenced your understanding of yourself and/or others.

Raleigh/Wake Persistence Scholarship Award

PURPOSE: This Scholarship represent the efforts of the Raleigh-Wake Alumni Chapter to assist current students (including Transfer Students) presently enrolled at the University with financial assistance based on NEED. The student must be a permanent resident of Wake, Johnston, or Franklin Counties and have completed at least one semester at NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE UNIVERSITY.
SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE: The Raleigh/Wake Persistence Scholarship Award is based on a continuing student’s need for financial assistance. The award will be $500 and must be applied for each semester. “NOTICE: If you are the recipient of a FULL Scholarship (i.e., Cheatham – White Scholarship, Dowdy Scholarship, etc.) you may not be eligible to receive the Persistence Scholarship Award.”
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: AN APPLICANT MUST:
- Be a United States citizen, and be a permanent reside of Wake, Johnston, or Franklin Counties, North Carolina.
- Be enrolled at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and have completed at least one semester.
- Have obtained a minimum of 2.7 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale (verified by official A&T transcript.)
- Include their official A&T transcript in the scholarship application.
- Provide a PERSONAL STATEMENT not to exceed two double spaced typed pages with your name at the top of the page, explaining what receipt of the Persistence Scholarship Award would mean to you and how it will help to further your education and career goals.
